Science Meets Scripture in Planet Earth

A growing body of research is reshaping how scientists think about Earth’s past—and possibly its future. The idea that Earth may have existed in two distinct forms—today’s interglacial state and a radically different “super-puff” configuration—has opened an unexpected bridge between planetary science and ancient texts. While astronomers identify super-puff planets through exoplanet data, some scholars now argue that sacred texts may preserve observational knowledge from a time when Earth itself existed in such a state. This article examines that possibility, focusing on Genesis 1 as a structured account that aligns with astrophysical models of a shelled planet. Using a seven-dimension, three-group framework, the study explores the intersection of science and religion, finding notable parallels but concluding that full integration remains unlikely. Even so, the work points to a provocative idea: that ancient narratives may hold scientifically relevant insights into Earth’s deep past—and its potential future.
